Which dinghy to buy for family sailing

Capacity, stability and safety: four options for sailing all together.

In short: For family sailing we recommend the Magno (up to three people, with a masthead float), the Argo (up to four adults), the Vibe (1 to 3 people) or the Topaz, one hull with four versions that fits on a car roof.

Topper Magno with a yellow gennaker

A family dinghy must be stable, roomy and easy to handle, so that everyone enjoys it from day one and those learning build confidence. These are the models we recommend.

Magno: the family boat

The Magno has a deep, roomy hull for up to three people, with two children's seats at the front. The float at the top of the sail removes the risk of a full capsize and the furling jib is simple enough for a beginner. Sails come in Dacron or Mylar.

Argo: up to four adults

The Argo comfortably carries four adults, or an instructor and three pupils. It is very stable and «forgiving» of beginners' mistakes, yet fast and exciting, with a gennaker, furling jib and reefing mainsail.

Vibe: versatile

The Vibe combines a 3.80 m length with a very roomy cockpit and just 80 kg: 1 to 3 people. It has a reefing mainsail and a gennaker, and there is also the more powerful Vibe X.

Topaz: a boat that grows with you

With the Topaz system, one 3.86 m hull comes in four versions and you can add the extras as your skills grow. It can also be carried on a car roof.

How many of you are there and where will you sail? We'll recommend the boat and prepare the quote.
