In short: For racing, Lenam builds the Optimist, which meets IODA rules with an exact 35 kg minimum weight, and the 420, under licence since 1998, and supplies the ILCA 4, 6 and 7. We also have school and racing accessories for the Optimist and ILCA.
For sailors who want to race, at Lenam we build the Optimist and the 420, and we offer the ILCA with all its accessories. Carefully built boats, with good weight distribution and key points perfectly aligned, fast on every point of sail and long-lasting.
The racer's path

- 420: the most popular two-person racing dinghy in the world. We have built it under licence since 1998, without rushing and with the best materials its rules allow.
- ILCA: the former Laser. The ILCA 4 is the step up from the Optimist; the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 are the Olympic single-handers.

Frequently asked questions
Which boat should I choose to start racing?
The Optimist for the youngest, the 420 as a two-person boat and the ILCA as a single-hander. The ILCA 4 is the step between the Optimist and the ILCA 6. More in racing dinghies.
What's the difference between the ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7?
The hull is the same (4.23 m long and about 58 kg); the sail changes: 4.70 m² on the ILCA 4, 5.76 m² on the ILCA 6 (formerly Radial) and 7.06 m² on the ILCA 7 (formerly Standard). The ILCA is the former Laser: only the name has changed. More in ILCA 4, 6 or 7: which one to choose.
Is the Lenam Optimist good for racing?
